Part Time Coffee Shop & Bistro Manager – 2 days per week

The Cornerstone Academy Trust is responsible for Broadclyst, Westclyst, Monkerton and Yeo Valley Primary Schools. This is an exciting time to join a growing team within the academy trust.

The role of Coffee Shop & Bistro Manager is based within Broadclyst Primary School’s well regarded Academy Café. We are looking for the right person to support in managing our busy and vibrant bistro, preparing and managing meals for staff members at lunchtime as well as running the Academy Café which is open to parents and families from 3pm every school day.

Initially hours of work are 8.30am to 5.30pm with a 30-minute break 2-days a week (Thursday and Friday), however with the anticipated growth of the Trust and the potential for the opening of a similar service in our other schools throughout Exeter, further hours may become available, and you may need to travel between sites. You will be employed for 39 weeks per year, which includes 5 non-pupil days.

During the morning, you will prepare for lunchtime service which will include collating staff food orders and stocking up the bistro’s salad bar. You must be good at baking cakes and other treats as this will form a significant part of your role. At lunchtime you will serve staff their meals and drinks which will include a mixture of pre-ordered and instant order. At 3pm you will oversee the opening of the café, which serves hot and cold drinks, snacks, cakes and full meals. The Manager will work alongside a catering assistant to serve the customers. The role will also include general waiting duties such as clearing tables. You will be expected to provide excellent customer service to promote a positive atmosphere to maximise the enjoyment of visitors. You will need to be take payment using an electronic till system and card machine.

The salary for this post is £17,749 pro rata per annum, but this will be lower to reflect the part week and part year working arrangements.

Catering Assistant

Our well-renowned dining service provides meals for Broadclyst, Monkerton, Westclyst and Clyst St Mary Primary Schools, providing high-quality meals for up to 700 pupils and staff daily.

We require a catering assistant to be based at Monkerton Primary School, although at times you may be required to work in our other kitchens at Broadclyst or Westclyst.

Catering Assistants are involved in all aspects of food preparation, kitchen hygiene processes, and washing and clearing up duties to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen. They will need to be good communicators and team workers, demonstrated in their contact with staff and co-workers.

Required ASAP, the post is for 20 hours per week. We anticipate the working hours each day will be 10am until 2pm, however, this can be discussed at interview.

The position is term time only (38 weeks per annum) but in time the role could expand to cover for functions taking place out of school hours, including school holidays.

There will be a 9-month probationary period. Ideally, we are looking for someone with experience of catering.

The hourly rate is £8.91, plus a holiday allowance enhancement.
