Chef - September 2021
To be based at Monkerton Community Primary School
This is an exciting time to join us at Cornerstone Academy Trust with its schools based on the edge of Exeter in East Devon and in the coastal town of Barnstaple in North Devon. Due to the expansion of the Academy Trust with the new school opening at Monkerton in Exeter, we are wishing to recruit a Chef to join the existing team of Chefs and the wider catering team who work across the schools.
We are looking to recruit an experienced and qualified Chef to run the brand-new kitchen to deliver our well-renowned dining service that already provides meals for Broadclyst, Westclyst and Clyst St Mary Primary Schools’ pupils. You will be supporting the Head Chef and catering team to provide high-quality meals which currently caters for over 700 pupils and staff daily. In addition to this, we also offer a service to parents through an “Academy Café” which provides families the chance to enjoy a drink, snack or meal after school.
We are looking for the role to start on Tuesday 31st August 2021, so that the successful person can have a period of training and induction working alongside the Head Chef to gain familiarisation with our systems and processes before the new school opens to the pupils. The successful candidate will need to be experienced and capable in catering for large numbers within tight budgets and so will need to flexible, reliable and creative. We would like to employ someone who enjoys good food and will embrace the school’s aim to deliver a ‘family dining’ experience, with nice, home cooked, seasonal food served to the table. Ideally, we wish to employ someone who can also demonstrate skills in baking cakes and treats for the coffee shop service.
This is a permanent position with a 9-month probationary period. The post is Monday to Friday, for 45 hours per week for 40 weeks a year (term time plus 2 weeks; enabling the Chef to partake in some staff training and to prepare for the upcoming half terms). The day begins at 8am and finishes at 5.30pm. There is a 30-minute break during the day.
The salary banding for this post is £20,538 to £23,817.
Visits to the school, dependent on any lockdown guidelines, are welcome by prior arrangement.
Our employees have access to the Local Government pension scheme, a health scheme, a cycle to work scheme and subsidised meals. Successful candidates will be provided with state-of-the-art IT equipment to help them fulfil their duties and we support all staff with an investment in their professional development through training and a good performance management process, where a bonus is payable to those who achieve highly. The successful candidate will be working in a brand-new kitchen with high quality equipment.
Cornerstone Academy Trust is responsible for Broadclyst, Westclyst and Yeo Valley Primary Schools and the newly open Monkerton Community Primary School.
Visits to the schools are welcome by prior arrangement. These will be conducted virtually whilst COVID restrictions apply. It is likely that the interviews will need to take place virtually via Microsoft Teams.
We look forward to receiving your application and hopefully meeting you as part of the recruitment process.
