Reception

"The Sheep"

Once upon a time, I went to the sea and saw a sheep. It was playing in the water and kept getting me wet. It had black, fluffy fur and looked friendly, but it turned out that it wasn’t, as it tried to attack me. I swam away really fast! Then suddenly, there was a shark. He gobbled up the nasty sheep, saving me from it, but then the shark started swimming towards me to try to eat me. As he got close to me, I attacked him by kicking and punching him. He swam off really fast. I then swam back to the beach and had an ice cream for being brave, but before I could eat it, it melted as the sun was so hot. So, it turned into a drink in the ice cream cone, and I drank it all the way down to the bottom where there was chocolate. Then I ate the chocolate and the cone. I saved all the people on the beach from the scary shark and nasty sheep.

"Stanley"

Once upon a time, there was a dog called Stanley. He was muddy and had brown fur. He had gone for a walk near his house but got stuck in some really sticky mud after trying to take a shortcut while rescuing his favourite toy from a tall tree. He got out of the mud with some help from his friend, who was also called Stanley but was a cow. Stanley the dog used Stanley the cow’s tail to pull himself out of the mud.

Stanley then climbed the tree with a really tall ladder all the way to the top to save his favourite toy. He jumped down onto the cow’s back with his toy, and Stanley the cow carried him all the way home. When he got home, he had a nice bubble bath to wash off all the mud. He had a massive shake and was all clean. He then spent the rest of the day playing with his favourite toy, safe at home.

The next day, he took his favourite toy to play at the river and meet his friend Stanley the cow. Stanley the dog, Stanley the cow, and Stanley’s favourite toy played hide and seek. Then they went back to their house and had dinner. They had their favourite doggy food and cow food. They had a sleepover together, and the next day they had breakfast and went back to playing. They kept doing that forever because they were best friends. They lived happily ever after.

"The Spaceman"

Once upon a time, there was a spaceman in space. While he was flying around, he hit a golden meteor, which was filled with gold. It crashed through his rocket, destroying it! So, the spaceman had to jump out of the rocket with his jet pack, which had loads of fire to boost him. The spaceman crashed down to Earth with a BANG and landed on Teddy’s house, which was the colour of a stormtrooper. There was a massive hole in the house.

The spaceman then jumped onto a princess and a horse while being chased by a bear that was in the house he crashed into. He was running away from the bear on the horse until he found a beanstalk. He used his jet pack to fly up the beanstalk until he found a princess’s house at the very top. The jet pack had run out of fuel, so he jumped to save the princess from the giant. He jumped onto the giant, and the giant fell all the way down the beanstalk, squashing all the houses at the bottom.

The spaceman saved the princess from the giant at the top of the beanstalk, but the giant broke the beanstalk when he fell down. So, the spaceman fuelled up the jet pack with the princess. The spaceman held onto the princess, jumping from the clouds, doing a loop-the-loop, and landing on a castle. Then the knight in the castle tried to stab his sword into the jet pack, but the sword wasn’t sharp enough for the tough jet pack, so they flew off, and the sword broke, crashing into a race car on the race track, breaking both of them. The car then crashed through the air, breaking more houses and crashing into the knight’s castle and the knight.

The spaceman and the princess lived happily ever after, after saving the village from the giant and the nasty knight.

Key Stage 1

"The Magical Book of Adventure"

Once upon a time, there was a boy called Max. Max lived in a little home with his mum and his brother on Buter Road. One day, while exploring the attic, Max found an old book with a strange symbol on the cover. He opened it and discovered it was a magical book that could transport him to different fairy tales.

Excited, Max decided to try it out. He read a spell from the book, and suddenly, he was whisked away to the world of “Little Red Riding Hood”. But something was different. Instead of a sweet little girl, Red Riding Hood was a fierce warrior with a red cloak and a sword. She was on a mission to defeat the Big Bad Wolf, who had turned into a giant, fire-breathing dragon!

Max joined Red Riding Hood on her quest, using his wits and bravery to help her navigate the enchanted forest. Along the way, they met other twisted versions of fairy tale characters. Cinderella was a clever inventor who built gadgets to escape her evil stepmother, and Jack from “Jack and the Beanstalk” was a skilled archer who protected the village from giants.

Together, they formed an unstoppable team. Max used his knowledge from the magical book to guide them through each challenge. They faced many dangers, but their friendship and teamwork helped them overcome every obstacle.

Finally, they reached the dragon’s lair. With a combination of Red Riding Hood’s sword skills, Cinderella’s inventions, Jack’s archery, and Max’s clever plans, they managed to defeat the dragon and save the fairy tale world.

Max returned home to Buter Road, bringing the magical book with him. He knew that whenever he wanted another adventure, all he had to do was open the book and read a spell. From that day on, Max’s life was filled with exciting journeys and new friends from the twisted tales.

And so, Max, his mum, and his brother lived happily ever after, knowing that magic and adventure were always just a page away.

"The Deer and the Magic Flower"

Once upon a time, there was a mother deer and her playful baby deer. One sunny day, the baby deer went out to explore the forest and stumbled upon a beautiful, magical flower. As the baby deer admired the flower, the sky suddenly darkened, and a fierce storm began to come.

A little bird flew down and chirped, “Quick, hide in that cave!” The baby deer dashed into the cave just as the storm unleashed its fury. The wind howled, and the rain poured down, but the baby deer was safe inside the cave thanks to a magic flower which had led the way into the cave.

Meanwhile, the mother deer was quickly searching for her baby. She called out, “Where are you, my baby?” Her heart raced with worry as she searched the forest.

Finally, the storm passed, and the baby deer came out from the cave. Hearing her mother’s calls, the baby deer ran towards her. “Mum, I’m here!” the baby deer cried.

The mother deer rushed over and hugged her baby tightly. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” she said, her voice filled with relief.

“I’m sorry, Mum,” the baby deer said, feeling guilty for causing worry.

The mother deer smiled and cuddled her baby. “It’s okay. I’m just glad you’re safe.”

Together, they made their way back home through the now calm and peaceful forest. They arrived safely at their cozy home, grateful to be together again.

The end.

"The Princess and the Blob"

Once upon a time, there was a princess who lived with her little pink blob. One snowy night, a big, angry snowman climbed up the castle and took the colour off her crown. The next morning, the princess found a big colour wheel and it had pink on it which was the colour of the crown. The princess ran down the tower and saw the colour wheel. She took it in the castle with her and then she took the colour off it and put it back on to her crown.

Lower Key Stage 2

"The Barking Boy"

Oli was a 4-year-old boy with green eyes and smart, brown hair. He has a dog named Biscoff, Biscoff is a boxer he has light brown fur, and he wears a turquoise collar. Oli was a silly boy and had the habit of copying his pooch pal.

One day Oli’s Mum was upstairs in the shower.  Oli was in the hallway; he could see a red Royal Mail van appearing outside. Biscoff barked crazily loud and of course Oli joined in. A cardboard package was posted through the post. “Don’t touch that!” Mum exclaimed. Biscoff and Oli didn’t listen, and both teared the parcel open with their mouths which got quite a bit of spit on it. And after 5 minutes of tearing Oli saw something awful, he really shouldn’t have touched it! Inside was some smart folded school uniform! Oli didn’t want to go to school, would this mean he had to leave Biscoff?!  “I’m sorry Oli but you do have to go to school,” uttered Mum. At this point Oli just growled and walked away. After a lot of bribing Mum finally persuaded Oli to wear the uniform.

Standing outside the classroom Mum told Oli to have fun and behave. Oli anxiously waved goodbye to Mum and walked into class. You must be the new student said a tall, skinny lady wearing a long yellow dress. “Ruff” barked Oli “pardon” shouted the women. You could imagine how the rest of the day went. At lunch Oli received his meal, Oli sat down and dug his face straight in making a mess! Some time passed and finally it was home time. The lady with the yellow dress spoke to Mum, Oli suspected it was about him acting like a dog. When the lady left Mum had a chat to Oli. “Oli sweetheart” there was a pause “you can act like a dog at play time, just not during lessons.” Oli didn’t like the idea of acting human and using a knife and fork. Oli looked down and whispered sadly “ok Mum.”

It was the next day, and today it was extremely hard to convince Oli to go to school. In the end mum bribed Oli to go, with a chocolate bar. At school, the tall lady (now wearing a blue dress) welcomed him. “Hello Oli” she said cheerfully “hi” Oli murmured the tall teacher spoke again “there’s a new girl today I think you might like.” The teacher pointed at her. Oli saw a girl about his height with braids and clear tinted beads threaded on them that tapped together when she walked. Oli went over to say hi and when he did, something incredible happened. The girl meowed and licked her coat! Like Oli acted like a dog This girl (called Ruby) must act like a cat. Oli told Ruby what his Mum had told him about playing at play time and being sensible during lessons Ruby listened, and playtime was so much fun for them both.

"The Girl That Went on a Beaming Spaceship"

Once upon a long time ago lived a little 9-year-old called Lilly, she dreamed of being an astronaut, she would look at the stars at night, get astronaut teddies and even beg her mum to go meet an astronaut. But one day she gave up, she thought she’d never see an astronaut and told her mum ‘I will never get to see an astronaut!’ ‘Oh, darling’ her mother said softly ‘You don’t know that for sure, one day you will be able to see an astronaut!’ ‘NO!’ she shouted, ‘I WILL NEVER SEE AN ASTRONAUT, I WILL NEVER SEE AN ASTRONAUT!’ said Lilly shouting, ‘Darling…’  ‘Just would you please get out!?’ interrupted Lilly ‘Ok…’ said Mum softly ‘Go then, hurry!’ said Lilly ‘Ok’ said Mum.

But one night when Lilly was in bed Mum thought of something ‘wait…’ said Mum ‘I have enough money to book to see a real astronaut, that will make her happy!’ So, Mum did, she decided the only way to make her daughter happy was to book the astronaut then the next morning Mum told Lilly that she COULD go see the astronaut, Lilly started jumping around excited!

The next day was Lilly’s birthday, so they went to see the astronaut in person, but first obviously, they had to have some birthday fun! So, Lilly and mum eat cake, had a mini disco, and ate pizza, fries and burgers! Then, Mum said something amazing ‘TIME TO GO SEE THE ASTRONAUT!!!!!’ Then Lilly started jumping around with excitement saying, ‘I’M GOING TO SEE AN ASTRONAUT, I’M GOING TO SEE AND ASRTONAUT!’ ‘Ok, ok calm down Lilly,’ said Mum ‘I know it is exciting, but you need to remember if you be naughty, super loud or silly I can cancel!

So, as Mum promised they’d go to see the astronaut they did but there was one problem, to get there They needed to go across the country! So, they booked a flight to go across the country in two days ‘two days!?’ said Lilly,

‘Yes, we will just have to wait!’

‘Ugh ok!’

So, the big day came, it was time to go see the astronaut, so Mum made Lilly’s favourite, ‘chocolate spread on toast!’ Lilly said, ‘My favourite!’ ‘I know, that’s why I am making it especially for you, anyway, do you know what day it is!?’ Mum said excitedly ‘a day to eat my chocolate spread on toast?’ Lilly said sarcastically ‘no…. today you are going to see a real spaceship and an astronaut!’ ‘OMG!!!’ shouted Lilly ‘yes way!’ said Mum ‘Quick I have already packed your stuff get in the jeep to go to the airport!’ ‘Yay let’s go meet a real-life astronaut!’ Lilly shouted with glee. So, when they got to Arizona, they drive two hours to see the expert astronaut, so when they arrived, she got to go in a real-life spaceship! Lilly was amazed by the gizmos and gadgets they used to control the amazing spaceship, and she loved it so so  much!

"The Witch Who Made The Glass Disappear"

One beautiful, sunny day there lived a girl called Lilly and she was a witch ( but nobody knew not even her mum and her dad) By the way her mum and dad her called Dave and Kate if you would like to know.  Lilly was always practising new spells and today was no different. This one was called The Invisible spell. She normally used things that could help her- her favourite spell was the school spell. This is where you know  everything at school and it really came in handy.

Just as she thought she cracked her spell she heard mum call. It was time to go on their day out to the aquarium. At the aquarium it was nice calm. Lilly liked it there. Really desperate to use her new spell she had a go but aimed a little too high.  The glass was gone! Water started coming out of the tank the blue tang and the stingray and the lemon shark were loose. Everyone started screaming to save them and Lilly felt terrible. Luckily then the members came in to see what was the matter was and they started scooping them back into other tanks.

Lilly almost fainted. But before she knew It was fixed phew all her lovely creatures was safe. Then she thought it was probably time to go and she went out for lunch and  went to McDonalds and they had cheese burger and some cheesy chips with salt on It and one of her favourite drink SPRITE!

Finally going home her friend Dorithy came over and worked on the invisible spell. ‘YES WE DID IT!’ They cried ‘We both said at the same time’  so then they said Jinx.

They wanted to try the spell out (but not at the aquarium thought Lily) so they asked if they could go to the beach. Her mum said sure make sure you come back at dinner time alright. “Okay” they both said. Then they walked on the beach. The wind was calm and the sea was wavey against the rock. Just then Dorithy spotted a cave look Lilly I found a cave. WOW I said really loudly. “Let’s go in It”. Okay but it looks like we have to go on the big rocks because there is water on the floor. They jumped in then they saw a man he looked friendly.

Going closer they saw he had a scar on his face and his smile was mean but it was too late, they were in his cave and then in a blink they were in a cauldron. They were horrified. But then Lilly spotted a shrinking spell, she had seen it in a book before, so she grabbed it when he turned away.  Mr Crow was making something and chopping up what looked like ingredients. They drank the shrinking spell. They felt themselves shrink. A tiny hole in the cauldron and they hopped down it and ran as quickly as they could. Mr Crow didn’t even know . Yay! Lets go home they said.

The End.

Upper Key Stage 2

"My Guardian Angel"

I found him on the side of the road, curled up in an old and worn-out cardboard box; he was doing his best to shelter his small, fragile body from the blistering cold. I gently placed the box inside of the car and started driving home with him, he cowered in the corner, whimpering quietly, his small, fluffy body was covered in snow, and he was shivering. It broke my heart to look at him, so small and innocent, I didn’t understand why anyone would abandon him. I knew that he needed to be taken to the vet and get immediate care, but the snow was relentless, and my tires fought with the ice to keep a grip on the road. After what felt like forever, I finally drove into the driveway and took inside. It was hard to know what breed he was, I knew he was a dog, but I wasn’t sure what kind. I laid a piece of chicken in front of him. At first, he was sceptical, but eventually, hunger got the better of him and he devoured all of it.

Over the following days, his strength improved, and I could see that he was learning to trust me. I decided to name him Rocky, because he was tough and strong like a rock, he never gave up. The next day, I took him to the vet, to my relief, they told me he was fine. The next day, I took him out into the garden, suddenly, I heard a deafening howl coming from the forest. I looked into the dark, gloomy trees and saw 3 wolves, camouflaged by the greenery of the forest. My heart raced as they came closer and closer. My legs trembled. I tried to get back inside, but I stopped in my tracks when I heard a fierce, deafening bark, it was Rocky. He growled and barked at the wolves, and they disappeared back into the cover of the trees. With my heart still pounding in my chest, I ran and hugged him, he’d saved my life.

Day by day, Rocky grew even stronger, he learned to fully trust me, we were inseparable. I took him out into the forest, the sun was shining down through the canopy of trees overhead, illuminating the path with a magical light. Rocky ran on in front of me, his fluffy ears were pointing up to the sky, I smiled. I remembered what my grandma would always tell me, she’d say,

“When I die, I’m coming back to find you. Even though you might not realise it, I’ll always be there, no matter what. Like your guardian angel.”

Rocky turned around to look at me, I stared into his beautiful blue eyes, reflecting the shimmering afternoon light, they were the same beautiful colour that my grandma’s used to be. I may never know for sure, but I think that I might’ve found my guardian angel.

"Ratu"

You’ve heard of a dog being a man’s best friend, but have you heard of a tiger being a boy’s best friend? Well, you’re about to.

Tom walked down Chinatown, right in the heart of the city of Westminster. The thrilling scents and sounds from the city street entered his nose and ears, making his brown eyes gleam. A cool breeze rattled the colourful lanterns hung above his ruffled brown hair led him to quite an unexpected find. In one of the many alleyways that were scattered all around Chinatown, he peered in and saw the most magnificent striped beast staring back at him, cowering in the shadows. At first, Tom thought to scream at this surprising creature but then he saw the softness of her eyes, the gentleness of her dainty nose, carefully sniffing at Tom.

“Come on little tiger, I’ll look after you.”

After that day, Ratu’s (that’s Indonesian for queen) home was with Tom. Tom never told his parents, somehow, he managed to hide Ratu from them, but one day some poachers came and moved into the house just across from Tom’s and caught a glimpse at Ratu through Tom’s bedroom window when he was at school and boy where they thrilled.

Tom and Ratu didn’t suspect anything, but the poachers were hatching a plan to steal the tiger and add it to their collection right under thier very noses. But that very afternoon, they heard everything.

“Grab a rope, attach it to the window and haul you an’ me up it. Then we grab the tiger, shove it in a crate and scram before the boy comes skipping ‘ome.” Said Jimmy explaining it to Hector. Yes, this was one wicked plan but luckily Tom and Ratu were just strolling below the window to listen in.

“We got to get you somewhere safe!” Cried Tom shocked by this villainous plan. He would have to send his beloved tiger away.

Of course, Ratu barley understood why Tom was so distressed so when the time came to set her free, she didn’t want to leave at all.

“Come, on! It’s, for, your, own, good! I, don’t, want, to, do, this, either, but, we, have, to!” Tom said trying everything, heaving, hoisting even dragging Ratu to get her to move but she wouldn’t budge. “Come on girl, just go, please. Please.” Tom whispered, with that, Ratu finally seemed like she understood the situation and back away. “Yes, good girl, keep going!” Ratu stopped and stared at him one last time but then sprinted away into the wilderness.

“Bye.” Tom whispered quietly as the tiger’s shadow disappeared.

A few years later, Tom and his family were hiking, in the wilderness, it wasn’t exactly the most enjoyable trip. But it got a whole lot better when he saw someone he had not seen in years.

“Ratu!” He ran towards her with his arms outstretched, grinning goofily as he is reunited with his long-lost tiger.

"The Orangutan"

Crunch! Crash! A baby orangutan sat alone in a tree the approaching noise was deafening. Crash! Boom! The noise was getting louder and louder. The noise was like something screaming and yelling only to be ignored. What was it? The baby orangutan alone and helpless sat on the branch of the lush, green fig tree confused and scared. It was like the noise was upon her. Boom! The baby orangutan jumped! Just in time as the tree she was sat on fell to the ground. She leaped and sprang from tree to tree thinking about the big monster and about where her mother was. She remembers the last time she saw her mum, was when she went in the direction of the monster path. She swung down and landed at the foot of a tree.

She was exhausted, she needed to rest. She ran to a small, damp cave and lay down to rest. What was that? What is it doing? Loads of questions, that all need to be answered. The little orangutan fell fast asleep. Crash! Boom! It was early in the morning, she was woken to the monstrous noises. Creak! Kaboom! The little orangutan peered out of the cave. The monster was there! It’s metal teeth gleam in the sun looking like daggers. Snap! Bang! It’s big yellow body had a furless monkey on it and he had a big yellow hat. “Hey! Stop the machine!” one of the furless monkeys yelled. The baby orangutan leaped up into the trees away from the metal monster. She looks over at the machine as it continues its horrid task, continuing its meal of trees.

“I feel sorry for those little orangutans” a furless monkey said switching the monster off. “Why? There just silly animals” another said to the first one. “We’re killing about 25 orangutans every day! For palm oil, wood and other resources all for our own greed. We’re destroying everything in this rain forest! Destroying their homes, and even sometimes there family!” The first one replied surprised. The little orangutan jumped to the tree above the machine she looked down at the lifeless machine. It didn’t look that scary now it was sleeping! Even though it looked ready to strike. The orangutan sat there looking at them with disgust. Why do this? Why? These furless monkeys are horrible. No animals in this rain forest would ever forgive them.

“We need to fight for animals like these!” the first furless monkey said as he pointed at the little innocent orangutan. She started to leap away.  “ Little animals make big differences!” he carried on. The baby orangutan looked back at them with hope. Could they change from their dreadful tasks? The little orangutan bounces away with new hope. This might not happen again! All the animals need is peace between them and humans keeping them safe and protected from extinction.
