Once upon a time there was Elliott and his mummy who were having tea together. Then a lizard came along. The lizard was hungry and the lizard said ‘can I have tea with you?’ ‘Yes!’ said Elliott .Would you like a peapod? Yes! but he didn’t just take one peapod, he took all the peapods on the plate and he still looked hungry too! So Elliott gave him an apple – but he didn’t just take one apple  – he took all the apples in the dish! And then he looked around the kitchen for what else he could find – he ate all the food that was cooking in the saucepan! I need a drink… and he drank all the beer and he they drank all the tea. ‘Thank you for my nice dinner’ he said.

‘I’ve got no food left for daddy’s dinner!’ Then daddy came home. Elliott and his mummy told him what had happened. ‘I know what we’ll do – we’ll put on our coats and go to a café!’ So they did – they had pizza followed by cake and ice cream and in the morning Elliot and his mummy went shopping. They brought loads of stuff to eat and the big tin of lizard food in case he ever came back! Good bye!

"The Legend of Crispy by Evan"

Chapter 1
Long ago, in a magic land of yummy food and sweet treats, a small desert village lies in the Bread Crumb Canyon, a hot, rocky place full of great adventure… and danger. In the village, an unexpected hero awaits, Crispy. Crispy was an adventurous, 7-year-old chicken nugget. He was made by the magic of the canyon, though he never knew it. Next door to Crispy, Chicken Nugget Cat lived. The people of the village called him ‘Nuggy Cat’ for short. Nuggy Cat was 3 months old and lived in a huge mansion all by himself. He was crazy and occasionally stupid.
Chapter 2
Crispy was adventuring in the canyon, being wary of ketchup scorpions and fish finger snakes. He was just about to climb over a huge pile of rocks when he spotted something… green?! There shouldn’t be anything green in this desert! Then he Crispy realised what it was-a cabbage leaf! That would mean the Cabbage Empire were going to attack! He rushed back to the village, trying to remember his important news…
Chapter 3
When Crispy got back, he saw everyone was in their houses, except Nuggy Cat, who was standing on his head, as usual. Crispy nervously rang the village bell and told the citizens that the Cabbage Empire were coming, just as they marched threateningly over a sand dune. Cabbage after cabbage flooded the tiny village, subjugating or destroying everything in their path. Some of the people, including Crispy, escaped, while the others… you know. It was a very sad and terrifying day for the entire village. What would they do now?
Chapter 4
That night, they set up camp, far from the village, which was more like a ruin now. The people of the village had no food, let alone water. Crispy made a small fire, and he and Nuggy Cat fell asleep, the fire crackling all night. Crispy was awoken by the sound of a drum and heavy feet stomping. The Cabbage Empire had followed them! As quick as a flash, Crispy grabbed a sword and a set of armour, bringing Nuggy Cat with him. He and Nuggy Cat charged at the army like a rocket, and fought as a couple all night. And guess what? They won!
Chapter 5
In the morning, everyone found themselves back at the village and it was… all fixed?! Then Crispy came out of Nuggy Cat’s mansion and told them how he and Nuggy Cat defeated the Cabbage Empire and the people of the village made them heroes! But sadly, Crispy’s house had been destroyed. Then he remembered, Nuggy Cat had said they could live together! Though that wasn’t the last they would see of the Cabbage Empire…

"The Dangerous Path"

One day there were two girls called Bella and Ella. They were twins. The twins were wearing smart school uniform while walking home from school. Everyone except them got driven home, they were by themselves. They were in year 4 as they were 9 years old. They were by themselves, no parents, no one with them. They were walking the usual fun, exciting way, but they saw a new path that they had never seen. They wanted to go in, but they were very nervous.
So, they went in the path and met two children called Charlie and Jack. Jack said ‘‘Oh do come into our house and have tea with us we will show you the way.’’ So, Bella and Ella did and sat down waiting for tea. But what Bella and Ella did not know, was time stands still when they are with Charlie and Jack. They could only think that they were hungry, they were waiting and waiting and waiting. Finally, the food came, they were surprised when the food tasted so good. Soon after they ate, in the middle of talking, they fell into a deep sleep. [Deep enough that if someone grabbed them, they would not wake.]
While Bella and Ella were sleeping, Charlie and Jack grabbed them putting them in a super, strong cage. After an hour, the two girls woke up and Bella quietly whispered ‘‘Where are we?’’
Ella said ‘‘We are in a cage.’’ Bella was furious because she knew who’d done it.
Bella said ‘‘Charlie and Jack did this.’’ They both shouted ‘‘Let us out! Let us out! Please Jack let us out!’’
Jack said ‘‘No.’’ They gave up and sat there until someone came and saved them. So, they waited and waited and waited.
After 3 hours, suddenly Anna (a friend of theirs) jumped out of a bush saying ‘‘I’ll save you I can get the key.’’
Bella said ‘‘Ok but hurry I need food.
Ana said ‘‘I’ll give them some food.’’
So, Jack said ‘‘Ok here’s the key.’’ So, she gave some food to them and the sleeping food to Charlie and Jack. Anna made sure that Charlie and Jack were asleep. Then they left them on the floor with the sleeping food and a drink. They woke up an hour later.
The next morning, Bella and Ella were walking to school with Anna. They all saw them and Charlie and Jack wanted to say something to them. They knew because they were shouting ‘‘We want to talk to you!’’ So, they went over. ‘‘We are sorry we just wanted you to be our servants. Do you want to be friends?’’
They both said ‘‘Yes of course if you don’t trap us.’’
Jack said ‘‘No, we will not trap you.’’ So everyday Bella, Ella and Anna see Charlie and Jack. They all have giggles, laughs and fun together. They never told anyone, no one at all, not even their parents.

"Glitter and the Unicorn"

One sunny afternoon, in the middle of the pink, cute castle on a white, soft, fluffy clouds there was a clumsy unicorn called Glitter. Glitter was a sparky unicorn one Of the rates types of unicorn to ever live. Every day she like to dye her hair crazy rainbow
colours, always with silver sparkle to add a shiny effect to her dazzling skin.

It was a boiling hot afternoon and Glitter was on her way to the clouds ice cream shop. Little did she know that just Infront of her was a medium smooth clouds rock getting
closer and closer to her feet. She stumbled. The fluffy white clouds opened up beneath her feet and she plummeted through the hole out of the clouds. Her heart was pumping like gigantic drums.

Down, down, down she fell closer and closer to the ground! She could see a trampoline in a garden getting nearer and nearer to her legs. She began feeling more and more petrified because she had never had never seen a trampoline before. Little did she know
she was going to bounce high but not high enough.

She felt really terrified because she couldn’t reach her cloud home. But, each time she bounced she got higher and higher until she could almost touch the soft, fluffy clouds. Then a little girl came out of her house to see what was going on. The little girls name was Poppy. She absolutely loved unicorns and was super excited to see one in her garden. “Please can you help me?” said Glitter. “Yes I can help you! What do you need?” replied Poppy. “I need a way to get up to the clouds,” said Glitter. “I can do that,” said Poppy. In the garden Poppy found a huge spring underneath the trampoline. “This spring will help you,” said Poppy. When Glitter bounced again on the trampoline and the spring she shot straight up into the clouds above. Poppy looked up at the hole in the clouds and thought “no one will ever believe me at school now!”
The End.

Upper Key Stage 2

"The Coffee Shop for the Dead"

Death. It always puzzled me, I mean, why couldn’t we just stay alive forever? Sadly, that isn’t the case, but I wish it was…

It’s a late Friday night: I’m in the hospital. The skies are too cloudy for me to see the stars. My forehead was sweaty like the condensation on the window. My grandad was lying on the bed. Probably the last bed he will ever lie on.

Mum’s in tears and dad’s not even in the room. Of course I’m crying, Grandad was the most precious person to me. He used to take me to adventure parks and we would ride a golf cart around the paths, or we would dance along to ‘Sweet Caroline’ by Neil Diamond in his front room. I miss those days.

The tears make my eyes red and puffy, like they’ve been stung by a
thousand bees; his hand was cold and bony and his face was pale and wrinkled. Like a mask stretched across his skull.

My mum held my shoulder. Her voice changed tones like a rollercoaster rushing around its tracks.

“Sweetie, it’s time to head home. Say goodbye.”
I waved goodbye to him and stumbled towards the door. I felt faint, like a zombie. Maybe that’s what happens when you die. You’re still conscious, but no one really knows.

It was a quiet ride home, I fell asleep instantly.

I wake up on the next day, in my bed. Mum wakes me up, the phone by her ear.
“He’s dead, Michael. I’m sorry.”
I didn’t talk. I didn’t want to talk. I wasn’t sure how to feel. Sad, angry, or scared. So I felt nothing.
I remembered the time my grandad took me to town, and there was a small coffee shop labelled ‘The Coffee Shop for The DeaD’ and he winked at me and said “That’s where I’ll be when I die, I’ll be safe.”

Well, we’re going to town today, so I hope I’ll see him in there. But, I know I won’t, I’m old enough to know that ghosts aren’t real.

Mum left me to wander as she went to look for clothes, so I went into the coffee shop. My mind tingled. I blinked, then opened my eyes to see…Ghosts?!
I’m in a daze. I can see the dead, or, are they real people? I’m confused. I scanned the room, and my eyes widened. I see my grandad sitting at a table, drinking coffee and playing games with his friends.
I ran up to him and gave him a hug.
“Grandad! You’re here! I can see you! I-“
My sentence was interrupted by his amused chuckle.
“Hello, my boy!” He cheered.” Fancy seeing you here, eh?”
I nodded.
“I guess I’ll be the first one to tell you if they have golf carts in heaven!”
A laugh came out of me that I never knew was inside of me.
He bent over and whispered in my ear.
“I told you I’d be safe…”

"The Prison Children"

"The Prison Children"

The morning air was sharp, and brittle. Davyd was weary with exhaustion, his sister Minah steered her feet in and out of the deep snow, while Alek the youngest wondered hopelessly by her side.

The three siblings were refugees from Ukraine. Their mother and father still locked up in a Russian facility somewhere in Moscow. The children had escaped to northern Siberia, with only a few set of eyes for guidance. “There must be a shack somewhere?” Davyd called, ignoring the wind whistling in his ears.

“Hold on.” Minah stopped him, “what is that?” The siblings turned to face Minah’s direction. A mighty building, half recked from the war, stood gaping in front of them. It’s windows were cracked, it’s paint was pealing down its side. Davyd read the sign hanging on the barbed wire. “PRISON”. He exclaimed. Davyd was eleven, the oldest of the group. Minah, ten. Then Alek, who was only five.

Curious to find more, the three sneaked under a break in the fence and gingerly strode closer to the prison. They managed to tear open the ice-sealed door, with their clammy hands. “I don’t like this.” Alek whispered, tugging on the other’s coats.

“Rather freeze?” His brother scolded, stepping into the new environment, his fingers tingling with excitement.

Inside, he jolted at the dank, unwelcoming stench as rats scattered past Minah’s feet, running through the floorboards littered with old cigars and rubble from the holes in the ceiling. Alek gave the two a glare, “I’m looking upstairs.” Davyd growled, striding purposefully. The next floor was coated in a blanket of dust, he kicked some rubbish cans. “We will have to stay here for the night.” Minah sighed to her brother, the floor below.

“What will we do?” Alek asked her, his eyes watering. “After this?”

“Stick together.”
Davyd continued to explore the recked prison, going higher and higher. On the way, he collected untouched food products, he piled up woolly blankets, taking bowls of water. He laughed down to where Minah and Alek could hear him. “Come on! Supplies are just round the corner!”

They reluctantly joined him, giving each other quizzical glances. But as they drew nearer to each floor, the same delight met their eyes. Davyd had gathered his pick of tinned spam and fresh tubs of water. Minah rapped a sheet around Alek, and Alek chewed on the findings. Before they knew it, the snow had begun to fall, and the darkness had conquered the light.

“We must stay the night here!” Alek said happily, rolling onto Minah’s lap. His elder siblings smiled at one another. “Yes, let’s!”

When the others eventually fell asleep Minah crept from the room and silently slipped to the roof of the Siberian prison. The cold wind ran through her, and her long hair flew like an eagle. She looked over the dark, forgotten land in hope and wonder. “We are safe.”

She whispered through the storm.

It was almost like she could hear her mother’s voice, battling past from Mosco. Hear her father’s laugh as it collided through the facility. She wrapped her sheepskin shawl tightly around her and heard her parent’s words.

“You will always be safe…”

"The Battle Between Kings"

The two sides stood on the top of the hill, glowering at each other. No words just scowls (apart from the new soldiers who were scared to death). It was so silent you could hear a pin drop. The opposing kings looked in each other’s eyes and next to them, standing tall, their proud queens.

“Foot- soldiers, position your swords!” The white king roared. The new soldiers (nervous as they were) obeyed and got ready. The soldiers all laid out in a line and were shaking with indescribable nerves. There were even some newcomers who had barely even dealt with a sword.

“Cavalry, CHARGE!!” Thundered the white king. The aggressive battle commenced, horses galloped, swords clashed, arrows flew, blood spattered, and the first foot-soldiers began to slump down to the floor. The higher the sun went, the redder the grass went.

“Archers, FIRE!” Commanded the white king yet again. A row of white archers readied their bows, pulled back the string and released. The arrows rained down in a triangular formation. The black king stared at the arrows in the sky, he had seen that technique before and it… meant… TROUBLE!!!

‘The whites were doing an all-out assault!’ The black king muttered to himself. He was panicking. This strategy had been used before to defeat an entire country’s army so would it do the same for his? This tactic usually aimed to take out the most valuable soldiers first. The king knew what he ought to do, protect his queen.

“Knights, defend our queen.” The black king boomed. The knights and cavalry all galloped back to carry out their order. With most of the battlefield cleared, as all the knights were protecting the queen, the king saw it. The perfect counter to an overly offensive strategy like the one he was facing. He would need the most agile of soldiers to get there without being seen but it could work. A small patch of trees was perched at the edge of the hill, a perfect position to hide in.

“Bishops, come to me.” The king was about to strategies. They had little time, so the king went on.
“Listen to me. Do you see that patch of trees at the edge of the hill?” He said softly. There was a murmur of yeses.
“Once the White king sends all his pawns out, you two sneak around and hide in those bushes. When the time is right you strike.”
With a mission to fulfil, the bishops dashed between swords, arrows, horses and dead bodies, moving all the time. With the cover of surrounding chaos, the bishops were able to secure their hiding place, ten feet away from the white king.
“Pawns, ATTACK!!” hollered the white king.
Knowing the time was right, the bishops lunged out from the bushes, their spears aloft and forced the enemy king into a helpless position.
“Ch-Checkmate!!” gasped Timmy incredulously.
He had beat the chess master. His grandad, hands on his head, was staring down, in disbelief.
