International Projects

At Cornerstone Academy Trust, we believe that education should open doors to the wider world. Our international projects give children exciting opportunities to connect with different countries and cultures, helping them to become confident, creative, and globally minded learners. We are proud to be a British Council International School Award partner, recognising our commitment to embedding international learning across the curriculum.

What We Do

Year 6 Global Enterprise Challenge – pupils design innovative solutions to real-world problems in a trust-wide competition. The winning team earns a fully funded trip abroad, where they not only share their ideas on an international stage but also meet and collaborate with pupils from other schools.

Year 5 Sustainability Project – children work together on projects focused on protecting the environment and sustainable living. The most successful teams are rewarded with a fully funded trip to Sweden, where they experience sustainability in action through nature, community, and school partnerships.

Year 6 Amsterdam Trip – as part of their studies on Anne Frank and World War II, pupils have the opportunity to travel to Amsterdam. This optional visit gives them the powerful experience of exploring the Anne Frank House and reflecting on themes of resilience, tolerance, and human rights.

Virtual collaborations – video calls, shared projects, and online exchanges ensure that every child can benefit from global learning experiences.

Where We've Been

Boston, USA

Our Year 6 winners of the Global Enterprise Challenge travelled to Boston, visiting world-leading universities and businesses. They worked alongside American students and met other international schools, gaining confidence and inspiration for their future.

Sweden

As part of the Year 5 Sustainability Project, pupils travelled to Sweden for a week of immersive learning. From being part of nature on guided hikes to collaborating with Swedish schools on sustainability projects, children saw first-hand how global environmental challenges connect to everyday life.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

In Year 6, pupils deepen their learning about World War II and the Holocaust through their studies of Anne Frank. A visit to Amsterdam gives them the opportunity to explore the Anne Frank House and reflect on the importance of tolerance, resilience, and learning from our history.

How It Benefits Our Pupils

Global outlook

Children develop cultural awareness, empathy, and an understanding of the wider world.

Future skills

Collaboration, communication, creativity, and leadership are at the heart of every project.

Real-world learning

International experiences bring subjects like English, Maths, Science, History, and Geography to life.

Confidence

From presenting ideas in Boston to navigating new environments in Sweden and Amsterdam, our pupils return more independent and inspired.

Linked to Our Curriculum

At Cornerstone, international learning is more than a one-off trip – it is an exciting part of everyday education, helping every child see themselves as a global citizen ready to make a difference.

These projects are part of our project-based learning approach, giving children authentic reasons to apply their learning:

Writing speeches, reports, and scripts for real audiences.
Using Maths to manage budgets and analyse global data.
Exploring Geography and Science through sustainability and culture.
Deepening History and PSHE learning through experiences like the Anne Frank House.
Sharing ideas through drama, art, and digital media.
