Step into Key Stage Two with a bang! Year 3 is bursting with exciting adventures for our young learners. In Mathematics, we build on strong foundations, deepening our understanding of place value and mastering the four operations—often tackling complex multi-step problems.
Fractions, geometry, and angles all make an appearance too—your knowledge will need to be acute! In English, our writers experiment with a variety of literary devices: fronted adverbials, amazing alliteration, rhetorical questions (how could you resist?), and vivid figurative language. These tools help us craft Meerkat Mail-inspired postcards from Egypt, write persuasive speeches as Boudicca or Suetonius, and give step-by-step instructions on how to wrap a mummy! In History and Geography, we journey across time and continents to explore ancient civilisations. Fancy a taste of authentic Mayan hot chocolate? Want to feel the heat of war as Romans invade Celtic Britain? How about unlocking the secrets of Tutankhamun’s tomb? Our studies compare distant regions both geographically and religiously—including an exploration of the six major world religions and a celebration of independence and diversity.
Our Science journey begins with the Harvest Festival, where we learn about healthy eating to fuel our minds and bodies for the rest of the year. We dive into the human skeleton – you’ll know your phalanges from your vertebrae in no time! A volcanic study erupts in the spring, leading into explorations of forces and magnetism. Music brings the unique sounds of the ukulele to our classroom, while a splash Spanish and creative cooking add an extra flavour to our learning experience. In PSHE, we nurture emotional and social growth. We develop resilience, learn conflict resolution, and become confident problem-solvers—because no challenge is too great for our Year 3 learners.
