Curriculum Planning
At our school, curriculum planning from EYFS through Year 6 is carefully structured to support progressive learning across all subjects. In EYFS and Reception, children engage in topic-based learning focused on communication, social development, and exploration through play. They build early skills in literacy, maths, understanding the world, and expressive arts, with a strong emphasis on personal development and early language.
From Year 1, pupils begin more formal project-based learning, integrating core subjects with exciting, real-world contexts—such as caring for animals, writing to Greenpeace, and time-traveling through transport history. Cross-curricular links deepen understanding across subjects like English, science, geography, and history, with enriching opportunities in music, art, computing, PE, and PSHE. This thematic and hands-on approach continues into Years 2–6, where the curriculum grows in complexity, ensuring continuity and challenge. Children build knowledge and skills across all areas, preparing them academically and personally for the next stage of their education.

Children in Nursery begin their learning journey in a warm, welcoming environment where curiosity is nurtured and every child is celebrated. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed around engaging themes such as Who Am I?, Once Upon a Time, and Amazing Animals, which inspire exploration and creativity across all areas of development.

Reception is a year filled with discovery, creativity, and growing independence. The curriculum offers a rich blend of direct teaching and child-initiated learning through play. Carefully planned topics such as People Who Help Us, What’s Outside?, and Where Shall We Go? provide meaningful contexts for learning across all areas of development.

Year 1 prepares its pupils for the opportunities, experiences, and responsibilities of life in and around school. We aim to nurture inquisitive minds, encouraging children to ask questions, explore ideas, and develop a genuine love of learning. Our curriculum is enriched with high-quality texts that inspire curiosity and creativity, and we bring learning to life through exciting, hands-on experiences.

Welcome to Year 2! Our curriculum is filled with hands-on projects and immersive experiences designed to ignite curiosity and inspire young minds. From performing diary entries in a TV studio as we relive the drama of the Great Fire of London, to interviewing a Second World War evacuee, our children will step into history and bring it to life. They'll become storytellers for Blue Peter, chefs designing healthy meals for the school menu, and environmental champions creating outreach programmes for the local councillor.

Year 4 is an action-packed adventure from start to finish! We aim to deliver a rich and varied curriculum while building the children’s independence and confidence. From exploring global climate zones and designing virtual worlds to stepping into the studio to perform our very own Horrible Histories scripts, there’s never a dull moment. During the Eggy Challenge, we launch rockets into the sky, hoping to protect our precious eggs from certain doom using only recycled materials.

Year 5 is an extraordinarily exciting and memorable year, packed with rich curriculum learning, creative projects, and drama opportunities.
The year begins with our Elizabethan topic. Children visit The Golden Hind and explore Shakespeare through a modern adaptation performed by half the class in a local theatre. Meanwhile, the other half work on an environmental project, creating David Attenborough-inspired documentaries. We also study space during this term, with children enjoying a visit to the Space Dome to deepen their understanding.

In Year 6, our curriculum is packed with ambitious, hands-on projects that challenge children to think critically, create with purpose, and connect their learning to the world around them. Across the year, pupils engage in a rich blend of subjects, from analysing the disappearance of Richard III’s nephews in our Kings and Queens unit to sculpting bold Picasso-inspired portraits in Art.
