This morning, our school hall was filled with excitement and anticipation as the Year 5 pupils took to the stage to present a special assembly about VE Day. The entire school gathered to watch as the Year 5 pupils shared their knowledge and creativity with us.
They read thoughtful and meaningful poems, shared artifacts and stories from the time of World War 2, and concluded the assembly with a rousing World War II song that left everyone feeling inspired and united. Some year 2 pupils also kindly shared some of the things they had learnt about when they studied World War 2 earlier this year.
World War II was a significant event in history that took place from 1939 to 1945. It involved many countries around the world and was a time of great challenge and bravery. VE Day, which stands for Victory in Europe Day, marks the day when the fighting in Europe came to an end on May 8, 1945. This day is celebrated to remember the sacrifices made and to honour the courage of those who fought for peace.
You may have been part of an event to mark the anniversary over the weekend or at home. VE Day is celebrated in various ways, including parades, street parties, and moments of silence to reflect on the importance of peace. It is a time to remember the past and to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy today.
A big thank you to the Year 5 pupils for their hard work in putting together such a meaningful assembly. Your efforts have helped us all understand the significance of VE Day and why it is important to remember it.
