Cornerstone Academy Trust is proud to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Bishop, has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2026 New Year Honours List for his outstanding services to education.
With more than 30 years of leadership and teaching experience, Jonathan has played a pioneering role in transforming digital learning, strengthening teacher development and improving educational outcomes for children both locally and nationally. His innovative work in digital classrooms, creative curriculum design and global learning partnerships has influenced educational practice across the Trust and beyond.
As CEO of Cornerstone Academy Trust, Jonathan provides strategic leadership to seven schools and has been a strong advocate for modern, blended learning environments. Under his leadership, every pupil and staff member has access to their own digital device, supporting inclusive, engaging and future-focused learning. His commitment to excellence has contributed to significant school improvement, the successful opening of new free schools, and the transformation of a previously underperforming school.
Alongside his work within the Trust, Jonathan makes an important contribution to national education strategy. He currently serves as strategic lead for the Cornerstone English Hub, supporting schools across the South West. In 2025, he was also appointed as a Department for Education RISE Adviser, recognising his expertise in school improvement and leadership.
Reflecting on the award, Jonathan said:

This award reflects not just my work, but the dedication of thousands of teachers, support staff, leaders and young people I have been privileged to work with across England. I am proud to contribute to creating schools where every child can thrive and where teachers are supported to innovate and grow.”
This honour recognises not only Jonathan’s personal contribution, but also the collective efforts of the Cornerstone Academy Trust community. We are delighted to celebrate this outstanding and well-deserved achievement.
