Celebrating World Book Day at Monkton Community Primary School

We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day last week at Monkton Community Primary School, with our school filled with the excitement of stories, creativity and a fantastic range of book characters.

Children and staff fully embraced the spirit of the day, arriving in brilliant costumes inspired by some much-loved books. We spotted characters from Harry Potter, Bunny vs Monkey and several characters from Dog Man, bringing favourite stories to life around the school.

A highlight of the celebrations was recognising the winners of our 500 Words Story Competition. The winning stories were read aloud and enjoyed by everyone, showcasing the imagination, creativity and writing talent of pupils across the school.

Author Visit Inspires Young Readers

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we were delighted to welcome author and illustrator Claire Elsom to the school.

Children from Nursery through to Year 5 enjoyed exciting workshops based on Claire’s popular Horace and Harriet stories. Through her engaging storytelling and illustration demonstrations, Claire brought her characters to life, inspiring creativity, imagination and plenty of giggles throughout the day.

To finish the day, Claire joined pupils in the library where she sold and signed books, giving children a lovely keepsake to remember her visit and further encouraging their love of reading.
