Last week, Westclyst Primary School was buzzing with excitement as we celebrated World Book Day. It was wonderful to see so many children arriving at school dressed as characters from their favourite books.
From classic stories to modern favourites, the creativity and enthusiasm on display truly brought books to life and filled the school with a real love of reading. Seeing pupils proudly share their favourite characters and stories helped create a joyful atmosphere across the school and reminded us how powerful books can be in inspiring young readers.
A special highlight of the day was the announcement of our 500 Words Competition winners. The winning stories were shared and celebrated, showcasing the fantastic imagination, creativity and writing talent across the school. We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part and impressed us with their ideas and storytelling skills.
Author Visit Inspires Young Readers
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, we were delighted to welcome author and illustrator Kev Payne to work with our Key Stage 1 children.
Kev’s sessions were full of energy, creativity and laughter, and the children were completely captivated from start to finish. As well as being an author, Kev is also an illustrator and poet, and he brought his stories to life through rhyme, song and puppetry.
Using his books Get Moving and Sock It to Me, Kev encouraged the children to join in, laugh along and fully immerse themselves in the storytelling experience. The interactive sessions sparked excitement and showed the children that reading and writing can be playful, expressive and great fun.
It was a joyful and memorable experience for our youngest readers and a wonderful way to inspire a love of books, language and creativity. We would like to thank Kev for bringing so much enthusiasm and joy to our school.
