School Librarian

This is an exciting time to join Cornerstone Academy Trust, with schools located in Exeter, East Devon, and the coastal town of Barnstaple in North Devon. We lead several Department for Education ‘centres of excellence’ and support schools across the country with professional development and school improvement strategies.

As a Trust which is also responsible for an English Hub (a DfE programme aimed at sharing best practice in the teaching of reading and English), our librarians play a vital role in supporting our children and role modelling these best practices, as well as supporting teaching staff in choosing and promoting high quality texts. This role will be primarily based across our 5 Exeter schools.

You will not only be responsible for maintaining the library and the book stock but also supporting children in choosing appropriate books, tracking what they are reading, helping with author visits and in mentoring and tutoring individual children across the curriculum and in their pastoral needs to ensure they make maximum progress in their education.

Your Role

  • Mentor and tutor children across the curriculum and in pastoral care. 
  • Manage and maintain a well-stocked, welcoming library space. 
  • Assist in the delivery of the targeted teaching of reading through appropriate phonics programmes 
  • Support pupils in choosing and tracking their reading. 
  • Organise author visits and reading events. 
  • Collaborate with staff to promote high-quality texts and reading culture.

  • Salary: From £22,500 (actual, based on 40 weeks)
