This is an exciting time to join us at Cornerstone Academy Trust, with schools based on the edge of Exeter in East Devon and in the coastal town of Barnstaple in North Devon. Due to the expansion of the academy trust with new year groups opening at the newer schools of Westclyst and Monkerton, we are wishing to recruit a Site Maintenance Caretaker to join the existing team of caretakers who work across the four schools within the Academy Trust. 

The role will include varying aspects of facilities management making it an interesting and dynamic job. We regularly have many ongoing building improvement projects, where good construction skills are required, such as general building, carpentry or plumbing skills. Examples of the types of projects you might be involved in include construction of fences, hanging doors, laying a concrete foundation and erecting a shed, refurbishment of classrooms, installing kitchen units and appliances etc. The successful candidate will also be involved in ongoing site maintenance requirements which might include cutting grass, landscaping, painting and decorating, site security and premises lock up and responding to alarm call outs. The site team need to ensure that the school sites are clean, safe and ready for the staff and children who work and learn in them each day.  

The successful candidate will report to the Trust Facilities Manager and work closely with the leadership team to help manage the different sites. We are seeking someone who is adaptive, patient and talented, a great team player and a good communicator. Self-motivation and a pride in their work will be equally vital to ensure high standards of workmanship.

You will need to be able to drive and have a clean driving license as we have a fleet of minibuses, a car and van. 

We wish to employ someone for 45 hours per week, usually between 7.30am and 5pm with a 30-minute lunch break, all year round on a permanent basis. Exact time patterns can be discussed at interview. The salary for this position will commence at around £22,300. The hourly rate will be a minimum of £9.50.

  • Cleaning of tables and chairs
  • Emptying bins
  • Sanitising Touch Points

About You

Although no experience is necessary, to be considered as a School Cleaner, you will need:

  • To be able to take instructions and work under your own initiative
  • To take responsibility for their own areas
  • Close attention to detail

These are permanent, part time roles, working a minimum of 10 hours per week, starting at 5pm, Monday to Friday, during term time only.
