Reception is a year filled with discovery, creativity, and growing independence. The curriculum offers a rich blend of direct teaching and child-initiated learning through play. Carefully planned topics such as People Who Help Us, What’s Outside?, and Where Shall We Go? provide meaningful contexts for learning across all areas of development.
Each day, children engage in phonics and maths sessions, explore a wide range of books, and write for real purposes in a language-rich environment. In addition to structured learning, they are given time to follow their interests and lead their own learning in well-resourced indoor and outdoor spaces. Children also benefit from specialist sessions in PE, computing, and Spanish, and enjoy memorable experiences such as school trips and performing in the Nativity.
As the year progresses, children develop the confidence, curiosity, and skills they need to thrive—laying strong foundations for a successful transition into Year 1.
