Year 6 Curriculum Overview

In Year 6, our curriculum is packed with ambitious, hands-on projects that challenge children to think critically, create with purpose, and connect their learning to the world around them. Across the year, pupils engage in a rich blend of subjects, from analysing the disappearance of Richard III’s nephews in our Kings and Queens unit to sculpting bold Picasso-inspired portraits in Art. We delve deep into the wonders of science with practical investigations into the human body and animal adaptation, while in Geography and RE, we explore coastlines, creation stories, and global cultures through meaningful discussion and reflection.
A major highlight of the Year 6 experience is the Global Enterprise Challenge, where pupils form companies, develop real products, and pitch their ideas in a Dragon’s Den-style finale. This cross-curricular project builds confidence, leadership, and financial literacy, and leaves a lasting impression as children apply maths, marketing, teamwork and persuasive writing in a high-stakes, real-world setting.
Each Monday afternoon, our enrichment sessions offer even more opportunities to shine. These sessions are a chance for pupils to discover new passions and grow beyond the classroom curriculum.
With a final residential trip to London and a celebration of independence, collaboration, and creativity in every term, Year 6 is a transformative journey that prepares our children for the next stage of their learning – and life.

Term 5
Eggy Challenge: Soapbox Racing
In the final term of the year, a large focus for pupils will be placed on revising their scientific understanding and testing their Design and Technology skills.
