Year 6 offers a dynamic and intellectually stimulating curriculum that integrates critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application. Pupils explore diverse subjects, from historical inquiries into the mystery of Richard III’s nephews to expressive Picasso-inspired sculpture in Art. Scientific investigations focus on the human body and animal adaptation, while Geography and RE encourage thoughtful engagement with coastlines, creation stories, and global cultures. A standout feature is the Global Enterprise Challenge, where students form companies, develop products, and present their ideas in a Dragon’s Den-style event, fostering leadership, financial literacy, and persuasive communication. Being their final year of school, the residential trip to London is always a highlight for children, celebrating British culture and historical relevance of our capital city.
Year 6 begins the Global Enterprise Challenge by stepping into the world of entrepreneurship. Pupils apply for roles within their own startup companies, writing CVs and letters of application to secure positions. They explore branding, design prototypes, and identify market gaps, learning how to evaluate products and assign team roles. This phase builds foundational skills in business, design, and teamwork, encouraging children to take ownership of their ideas and responsibilities. It’s a hands-on introduction to enterprise that sets the stage for the next phase of development.
With their companies established, children prepare to pitch their products to a panel of Dragons for investment. They develop persuasive presentations, plan budgets, and refine their marketing strategies. Once funding is secured, pupils begin production and prepare for real-world sales at the Christmas Fayre. This phase blends financial literacy, creativity, and communication, giving children a taste of business planning and customer engagement. Teams reflect on their performance and adapt strategies as needed, learning to respond to challenges with resilience and collaboration.
In the final phase, children calculate profits and evaluate the success of their companies. They reflect on teamwork, leadership, and business decisions, compiling detailed final reports for the Dragons that include financial summaries, product evaluations, and lessons learned. This stage reinforces accountability, critical thinking, and presentation skills. Pupils celebrate their achievements and recognise the importance of responsibility and adaptability. The Global Enterprise Challenge concludes with pride and professionalism, preparing children for future academic and real-world challenges.

Children study key monarchs and leaders from British history. They research achievements, controversies, and long-term impact. Pupils write persuasive arguments and prepare for a formal debate. The debate is filmed and shared with other classes, who vote for the most influential leader. The project builds historical understanding and public speaking skills. It encourages critical thinking and respectful discussion. Children learn to support opinions with evidence. The televised format adds excitement and engagement.

Children begin by learning cooking techniques from the school chef, starting with a lasagne demo. They then prepare their own versions, which are blind-tasted by judges. Selected pupils move on to round two, cooking chicken kebabs with a side salad. Finalists create pavlovas for judging at the Year 6 leavers’ assembly. The project builds practical life skills, teamwork, and resilience. Pupils reflect on presentation, flavour, and technique. It’s a fun and competitive way to celebrate learning. The cook-off is a memorable part of the Year 6 journey.
